Food is a rich and complex topic for food festivals around the world, and in the Nordic countries, it is not different. Thousands of people flock to attend festivals and markets, not just to visit and try new flavors, but also to exhibit and sell their products. 

 

And food artisans have a myriad of events, from local functions in their own city or region, to national and international events to promote their craft. It's a great way to reach more consumers, network with retailers and partners, and expand to new business horizons.

Gladmat Food Festival

 

Hosted in Stavanger, Norway, this festival has hit the calendar from June 29th to July 2nd of 2022. Gladmat means “Happy Food” in Norwegian, and aims to be Norway's most important meeting place for chefs, food producers, and foodies, with emphasis on the environment with circular economy practices. The festival returns in 2023.

 

Terra Madre Nordic

 

A biannual festival organized by Slow Food Nordics, this year in Stockholm, Sweden. Terra Madre Nordic is the most important sustainable food market in the Nordics, and a meeting place for both producers and consumers. It’s connected to the international Slow Food Organization, and an important event to discuss sustainability, how to preserve food systems and cultures, and what is good, clean, and fair. Food Festival Aarhus

 

The biggest festival of Denmark happens in September of 2022 in the beautiful Aarhus, with several areas for restaurants, food markets of small producers, activities for families and kids, workshops, and mostly, to highlight Nordic culture’s flavors, innovations, and dishes.

 

Slow Food Festival Västnyland

 

The local food festival of Slow Food Västnyland in Fiskars will take part in October of 2022 and is a happy meeting for small food producers from Uusimaa and Southwest Finland. It welcomes around 70 producers to a local food fair and also offers workshops, tastings, lectures, and talks to discuss sustainability, localness, better food systems, and more.

 

Nordic Future Food

 

A meeting place for tomorrow’s food, that’s the main idea behind this professional food fair in Stockholm, Sweden. This year it happened in May, with a confirmed date for 2023. The fair welcomes innovative food producers, from their preparing stage to their logistics processes, thinking about technology, digitalization, and low carbon footprint thinking.

 

Turku Food and Wine Fair

 

The city of Turku hosts the Sea Jazz Festival, an important musical event for the region, with the Food and Wine Fair being an important part of the calendar. Remember that the 29 and 30th of July are the days to visit and taste the best in Finnish cooking in three mobile restaurants, and enjoy great craft beers and natural wines while listening to smooth jazz.      

 

Nordic Organic Food Fair (NOFF)

 

Even though it is an event destined for professionals, this international trade market is an important destination for anyone in the food business, as it’s focused on organic food and drinks from the Nordic region. It happens in November 2022 in Malmö, Sweden. So, producer, this might be a chance to make interesting connections.  

 

Matstreif Food Festival

 

Around 200 Norwegian producers and exhibitors will be present at this year’s Matstreif - Norway's largest food festival. Scheduled for the 23 and 24th of September in Oslo, This year's event will feature exclusive and carefully selected products from local food producers. Besides the market, talking and tasting sessions will be available, just as smaller pop-up food events.

 

Matsjáin

 

The food market organized by the Association of Small food Producers (Samtök smáframleiðenda matvæla) happened in April 2022 at the Hotel Laugarbakki, open to the public. Before, a networking session helped small producers to connect with each other, and with the associations and companies present at the event.

 

Kevätmessut

 

The biggest fair in Helsinki, Finland, for Spring-related topics – from gardening to home renovation – has a special area dedicated to local and organic food. The 2022 event happened in April, and Korjuu had a stand featuring food producers from the Network: Spices Chef, Nordic Bee, Flow Bake, and Old Tea Shop met with consumers and other food producers for sales and networking. We expect to return in 2023 with our booth and more producers!
